I’ve gone through my own health challenge over the past six months. Technically, I’m still working on climbing my way out of it and there’s a long way to go but it’s the direction that matters. Up. Better. Healthier.
When you lose your health, everything becomes difficult. Everyday tasks take effort and energy is a thing you remember once having. Doing things that bring you joy fall to the wayside.
But I know that there are two parts to health, the physical and the mental. So I’m challenging myself and each day to read and write a little more than the day before. I can’t tell you how good it feels to be able to do both again. And reading has reminded me why I started writing in the first place.
The books I read took me away from my own problems. They brought me to the fantastic lands of the Twelve Kingdoms where epic battles and wars for love were waged. I ran through the dark alleys of Moscow, danced at Almack’s in London, and prowled the streets of a dystopian Atlanta. When you’re not feeling well, books are a ticket away from your problems or pain. And I cant wait until my words are able to do that for someone.
If someone you know isn’t feeling well, give them a book. You’ll be gifting them with far more than paper.
