By the time I am cozied under a fluffy blanket on my reading chair, the book has been read by a number of industry professionals. Even the ARCs (Advance Reading Copies) I am lucky enough to snag for review at Reading Between the Wines have been read, read, and re-read by agents and editors.
Some call them gate keepers, those agents and editors that allow certain books to pass through the doors of publication. I call them lucky.
The few who get to work on revisions with authors and help them turn a great book into an amazing one are the people who get to see the future of what books we will be reading in a number of months. This has been happening long before writers were banging out stories on their typewriters and is still happening for authors who live on their laptops or tablets.
I don’t read the future but being a reader I see trends of what genres are stealing the scene. As a book reviewer and blogger I often try to guess where the next wave of popularity will crash. A couple of times I have been right. A few times I have been woefully wrong, vamps may be dead but I will always have a soft spot for paranormal creatures great and small.
Either way I am glad someone is watching out for my future To Be Read books!
