Wednesday, I happened to walk by my cell when it was buzzing quietly. I looked at the screen, a California number. I live in Minnesota, California doesn’t have reason to call the cold north, at least in my world. I picked up the phone.
And my life changed.
My manuscript, AWAKENING THE BLADES, is a 2018 RWA® Golden Heart® finalist! For those of you not in the book world, this is akin to wining a Golden Globe.
RWA describes this contest: The Golden Heart award recognizes excellence in unpublished romance fiction manuscripts.
The winner will be announced this summer at the annual conference. But simply being named as a finalist is gift enough. I’ve already met some of my amazing fellow finalists. And as I am seeking a home for my book, I can say this one is a Golden Heart Finalist.
There was a low-percent chance of finaling. When I entered, a little over three months ago, I was really struggling with my health. And even though I’d placed, and won some, of the other contests Awakening the Blades had entered, I still had yet to find an interested agent.
But you can’t win if your name isn’t even in the hat, right? This week, I’ve won. And it’s just beginning.
Take the leap of faith. You will find blessings.
